Overview of General Job Duties

The Overnight Child Specialist (OCS) is primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of children staying overnight in the nursery. With oversight and safety a #1 priority, the OCS will always remain awake on shift from 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. and will check on sleeping children regularly, as well as keep constant eyes on children who are awake. The OCS provides child-centered emotional support to children who awaken from a bad dream. To promote the healthiest environment for our children, the OCS will keep the nursery clean and sanitized. The Overnight Child Specialist is also trained and available to provide crisis intervention and resources to families and respond to the crisis helpline as needed. A HS education or GED is required, but an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related or unrelated field is cause for wage enhancement.

The Child Specialist (CS) is primarily responsible for the physical, social, and emotional care of the children admitted to the Crisis Nursery on shifts during the hours of 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. The CS will develop and lead children’s playgroups activities, facilitate and maintain a structured daily routine, as well as provide crisis intervention and resources to families using the Nursery’s services. The CS also helps ensure a clean and tidy environment.  A HS education or GED is required, but an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related or unrelated field is cause for wage enhancement.

The Child and Family Specialist (CFS) requires a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, and shares responsibility for the appropriate care of children admitted to the Crisis Nursery, including risk assessment, goal setting, crisis intervention, and prioritizing family needs. The Child and Family Specialist is also responsible for the general oversight of the shift, as well as managing the Nursery helpline during that shift. CFS work as part of the team of staff that care for the children’s needs on shift. Full-time CFS participate in an on-call rotation.

The Family Care Specialist (FCS) requires at least a bachelor’s degree in social work or closely related field. The professional in this position is the primary point of contact in response to daily crisis care calls and is largely responsible for the appropriate intake and discharge of children admitted to the Crisis Nursery, including risk assessment, goal setting, crisis intervention, and prioritizing family needs. also works as part of the team of staff that care for the children’s needs on shift, and Full-time FCS participate in an on-call rotation. This role is an important part of our career ladder, and we look to promotefrom within our existing staff whenever possible.

All staff must be at least 21 and Supervisors prefer applicants that have at least a year of paid experience caring for children agest birth to 12. A HS education/GED is the minimum requirement for OCS and CS although we’ll pay a premium for higher education such as an associates or bachelor’s degree. Crisis Care preferred but not required.
