The Power of a Simple "Yes"
When families are facing a crisis, a simple "yes" can change everything.
At the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, our mission is to be a safe place for children and families in crisis by providing 24/7 access to emergency care and a support network that helps families achieve stability. Every day, our dedicated team turns that mission into action through compassionate crisis care, family support services, and child abuse prevention efforts that strengthen families across our region.
Recently, those efforts were on full display throughout our Nurseries.
At our St. Charles and West locations, children started their day with movement, laughter, and yoga activities that encouraged healthy development and helped create a sense of safety and routine. At Centene, children enjoyed face painting, self-care activities, and opportunities to simply be kids in a nurturing environment designed to support healing, resilience, and well-being.
While these moments may seem simple, they are an important part of keeping kids safe during times of family stress. Every activity, every meal, and every caring interaction helps children feel secure while their families work through challenges.
At the same time, staff members across our organization were helping parents navigate difficult situations and find the support they needed.
When one parent called seeking emergency child care and learned their preferred location was full, our team immediately worked to identify another solution. Instead of hearing about obstacles or a waiting list, that parent heard something much more important: "We can help."
For another family, collaboration with a hospital partner ensured a mother could receive critical medical care while knowing her child was safe and cared for. Through partnerships like these, the Crisis Nursery provides a safety net that helps families remain together during difficult times.
Another first-time parent was connected with services right away and given the opportunity to spend time with staff before leaving their child in care. That extra hour of reassurance, support, and relationship-building transformed an intimidating experience into one rooted in trust and compassion.
These stories highlight what effective child abuse prevention looks like in practice. It is not just responding to emergencies. It is building strong families before a crisis becomes something more. It is providing respite care, emotional support, community connections, and practical solutions that help parents overcome overwhelming challenges.
Every phone call answered. Every child welcomed. Every parent encouraged. Every partnership strengthened.
These moments happen every day at the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, and together they create something powerful: stronger families, safer children, and a healthier community.
Because when families reach out for help, they deserve more than a service. They deserve hope, support, and someone ready to say, "YES."
